Saudi Arabia's King Salman arrived in Egypt on Saturday for a landmark summit between Arab and European and states in the Red Sea resort of Sharm El Sheikh.
The Saudi monarch was welcomed by Egyptian President Abdel Fatah El Sisi ahead of the two-day meeting that brings together 50 member states from the Arab League and the European Union.
The meeting’s agenda includes a wide range of topics including the war in Yemen, where Saudi Arabia is leading an Arab military coalition supporting the government, the Palestinian-Israeli conflict, illegal migration, counter-terrorism, investment and energy.
Among other Arab leaders expected at the summit starting on Sunday are Lebanese Prime Minister Saad Hariri, Iraqi President Barham Salih and Tunisian President Beji Caid Essebsi. European leaders who have confirmed their attendance include German Chancellor Angela Merkel, British Prime Minister Theresa May and Irish Prime Minister Leo Varadkar.
