Fears have been mounting that foreign fighters returning from Syria and Iraq may pose a threat to the United States and Europe when they return. According to some estimates, 6,000 to 10,000 foreigners are engaged each year in fighting Bashar Al Assad’s regime – of which 10 per cent are from Europe.
