Change in Al Hijri New Year’s Day holiday for private sector

Saturday, November 2 – not November 3 – will be the Islamic New Year holiday for private sector employees.

Paid holiday marking Al Hijri New Year for UAE’s private sector has changed, according to a circular issued today by Saqr Gobash, the Minister of Labour.

The circular stated that Saturday, November 2 will be the Islamic New Year holiday for private sector employees.

The UAE Federal Cabinet had on Sunday announced that the Al Hijri New Year holiday for private and public institutions would take place next Sunday, November 3.

Meanwhile, the Securities and Commodities Authority has declared November 3 as a holiday for the financial markets to mark the Al Hijri New Year. Trading will resume the next day, the SCA said in a statement.
