A Chinese doctor, who was reprimanded for spreading information online about the coronavirus before it was officially recognised, died on Friday after testing positive for it.
Li Wenliang was an ophthalmologist at a hospital in Wuhan, the city at the centre of the outbreak.
The hospital where Li worked said on its Weibo account that he died at 2.58am local time on Friday.
Li, 34, said on Weibo on February 1 that he had tested positive for the coronavirus.
More than 500 deaths and 26,000 cases of the coronavirus have now been reported in China.
China has pledged to be open and transparent in dealing with the coronavirus.
