The 2019 Nobel Peace Prize was given to Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed for his efforts to achieve peace and international cooperation, and in particular for his decisive initiative to resolve the border conflict with neighbouring Eritrea. AP Photo
The prize is also meant to recognise all the stakeholders working for peace and reconciliation in Ethiopia and in the East and Northeast African regions. Reuters
The Nobel committee said Mr Ahmed has 'initiated important reforms that give many citizens hope for a better life and a brighter future'. Reuters
Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed has aslo engaged in other peace and reconciliation processes in Africa such as mediating Sudan's transition of power.

Ethiopia's prime minister Abiy Ahmed was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in Oslo on Friday for his work in establishing peace with neighbouring Eritrea.
The Norwegian Nobel Committee said Mr Ahmed won "for his efforts to achieve peace and international co-operation, and in particular for his decisive initaitve to resolve the border conflict with neighbouring Eritrea".
