ABU DHABI // A young boy was taken to a hospital in the capital after trapping his arm on a moving walkway at Abu Dhabi International Airport yesterday. The child, believed to be a Sri Lankan travelling with his family, was taken to the airport's first aid clinic before being transferred to Al Mafraq Hospital, where he received further medical care. He was released later.
One witness said the boy's arm was trapped in the "travelator" at the airport's new Terminal 3 for about 20 minutes "It looked very nasty. We just hope he is OK," the witness said, adding that he was on the same flight as the boy and his family , from Sri Lanka to the UK via Abu Dhabi. Abu Dhabi Airports Company, the government-owned airport operator, said in a statement that the incident happened at around noon.
The company was unable to provide further details on the boy's injuries. Abu Dhabi Airport's Terminal 3 opened in spring 2009.
