"A full investigation is now under way in co-ordination with the yacht owner," said Matthew Bate, the director of operations at Mourjan Marinas IGY, which manages Festival Marina.

The yacht is currently submerged with a civil defence boat docked next to it. The fire comes a year after a similar incident at Abu Dhabi Marina, which injured one person and led officials to take additional precautions against fire.

Most of the boats docked at the marina are small privately owned yachts.

There are also several boats belonging to the restaurants next to the marina.

Mourjan Marinas IGY declined to comment.

Security from the adjacent mall also had no further details about the incident.
