Women seek help from domestic violence at Sharjah centre

The centre opened last year to provide accommodation, psychiatric help, legal assistance and other services to Emirati women who have experienced abuse.

A Sharjah centre for domestic violence victims has served 26 women, Sharjah Social Services said this week.

The centre opened last year to provide accommodation, psychiatric help, legal assistance and other services to Emirati women who have experienced abuse.

The centre is named Qawawir, after the Quranic word used to urge men to treat their wives, sisters and mothers with love. It accepts women between the ages of 19 and 59.

Victims of domestic violence or anyone witnessing violence against a woman can call the centre's 24-hour hotline at 800-800-700.
