DUBAI // A shop assistant molested a woman who came into his store to buy clothes after she was told by security guards to wear a less revealing outfit, a court was told.
J A, a 31-year old Filipina receptionist, said she had gone to Global Village with a friend on November 30, 2013.
“The security personnel at the gate requested that I cover up because I was wearing shorts,” she said. “He told me to visit a shop nearby and guided me there.”
She said that the defendant, Pakistani Z H, 33, showed her some clothes she could use to cover up.
“He told me that he would teach me how to tie it to my body, and proceeded to wrap it around my waist,” she said.
While this was happening, she said the assistant molested her.
Her friend, M A, 38, also from the Philippines, told police: “The defendant showed the victim a few items of clothing that she can use to cover up her body.
“A few moments later I saw my friend hitting him on the shoulder and screaming angrily and asking him in English why did he touch her. Z H raised his hands and smiled in a sleazy way and told J A that he didn’t do anything wrong.
“My friend was angry and shaking. She asked another employee who was near that she wanted to talk to the manager, to which he answered that there wasn’t one.
“We went to the security guy who called the police. They came and arrested Z H.”
The defendant denied the charges at Dubai Criminal Court and the next hearing was set for March 5.
