DUBAI // A woman who burnt the genitals of her rapist with a hot knife in a revenge attack that led to his death has been sentenced to three years in prison.
LO, 20, was staying at a friend's flat after a night out at the Armani Prive nightclub in the Burj Khalifa last June when she woke to find Suleiman Adam, a student, having sex with her.
She told prosecutors she could not resist Adam because she was drunk at the time.
But the next day she told two of Adam's classmates - KT, 21, and AS, 20 - about what had happened. All three went to his flat in Tecom.
"We told him we would beat him up to make up for the crime, or we could report it to police," KT told prosecutors. He said Adam chose the beating.
The Dubai Criminal Court of First Instance heard Adam's genitals had been disfigured by burns during the attack, and DNA matching that of the woman was found on the knife that inflicted the wounds.
Adam died a few days later, on June 17, from a brain haemorrhage caused by the attack.
Police then arrested the woman and KT. AS was detained at Cairo airport on an Interpol warrant after fleeing the country.
All three, from Nigeria, denied sexual assault and assault leading to death, but were found guilty and sentenced to three years in jail.
The two men were also found guilty of illegally drinking alcohol and sentenced to three months in jail, to be added to the three years.
AS was acquitted of a separate charge of sexual assault for removing Adam's clothes and underwear.
