DUBAI // A woman has been arrested on suspicion of trying to smuggle more than two kilos of cocaine into the country, police said yesterday.
AS, from an unidentified African country, had been travelling from Sao Paulo, Brazil, to Nairobi through Dubai International Airport, where she was stopped last week after a tip-off to police.
Officers said she had to be searched twice before all of the drugs were found.
They found about 312 grams of cocaine wrapped in tape and hidden in AS's body cavities, while another two packets, with a total weight of 736 grams, were found in her underwear.
Police searched her a second time after they noticed she was walking awkwardly.
They say they found another kilo of cocaine in her shoes.
According to police, AS said a man had offered her US$2,000 (Dh7,100) to carry the drugs from Sao Paulo to Nairobi.
The case has been referred to public prosecution.
