AJMAN // A woman died on Sunday after falling from the fifth floor of a building while holding her 11-month-old baby, who was seriously injured.

The mother, in her 30s and from an Arab country, and her son fell from their residential building in Ajman’s Al Nuaimiya area.

She died at the scene but the baby was found alive beside her, said Lt Col Ali Al Shamsi, director of administration of Ajman Police.

“They were immediately transferred to Sheikh Khalifa Hospital in Ajman where the emergency doctor stated that the mother died instantly after she fell owing to fractures and severe injuries,” Lt Col Al Shamsi said.

“The newborn baby is suffering from serious injuries to several parts of his body.”

He said the flat door was locked from the inside and there was no evidence of another person’s presence inside the apartment with the woman and her baby.

The woman’s husband, a director of a company in Dubai who is also from an Arab country, told police that he married his wife in 2015 in their home country, then brought her to the UAE on a visit visa the year she became pregnant.

He said his wife was receiving treatment for depression at Sheikh Khalifa Hospital in Ajman and Central Private Hospital in Sharjah.
