Dubai // A woman accused of negligence that caused the death of a 9-year-old boy was acquitted today by the Dubai Court of Misdemeanours.
Indian AR, 37, denied mistakenly causing the death of an Indian boy YJ, after he attended her son’s birthday party on June 26 last year.
The court heard that AR’s son and his friends went to the swimming pool and AR followed to keep an eye on them at about 7pm.
“Boys came to me telling me that there was a kid throwing up, I went to him and found him on the edge of the pool so I dragged him to the ground and called an ambulance,” AR said.
But the boy died before reaching the hospital.
The boy’s father, who filed the report against the woman, claimed that he was told the defendant was 20 minutes late in calling an ambulance and before that she called her family’s doctor but he did not come.
“I did not even know that the party would be shifted to the pool and thought it would remain inside the apartment,” said the father PJ, adding that had he known the kids would be taken to the pool, he would not have sent his son because the boy did not know how to swim.
“They even gave him swimming shorts to change, because the shorts he was wearing when the incident happened were not his and he must have changed at their place,” the father said.
