ABU DHABI // The winners of a contest that aimed to promote Emirati culture among youths were announced yesterday.

The Ministry of Culture, Youth and Community Development's fourth Innovative Cultural Project was won by Sheikha Al Jasmi for her entry, "I'm pregnant … I am waiting for my child".

The competition judged cultural projects on three main criteria: promoting national identity, enhancing the Arabic language and developing programmes that promote the study and research of Emirati culture.

Second place went to Nasser Al Nuaimi for "The application for designing work in kofi style of writing".

A group of engineering and science technology students from Khalifa University were third with "My culture around the UAE".

Bilal Al Bdour, assistant undersecretary for culture and arts, said the project represented the ministry's efforts to support cultural activities and increase UAE cultural awareness. He said promoting Emirati values and the Arabic language were a large part of this.

Mr Al Bdour said the contest was an opportunity for youths to express themselves and highlight their role in the service of the UAE. He encouraged more young people and university clubs to participate in future.
