Commuters have seen a glimpse into the future of transport in the UAE - after footage of the first prototype pod of the 700mph Hyperloop linking Dubai to Abu Dhabi was shared with the public.

Dubai Media Office tweeted a video of the ambitious project, which will slash travel times between the two emirates from about an hour to 12 minutes.

However, before you get too excited about the prospect of leaving behind the daily grind of lengthy traffic queues, the office says in the video that the Hyperloop is at least five years away from completion.

But the video does give travellers plenty to look forward to.

The pod boasts roomy cabins with embedded touchscreens, carrying Virgin and RTA logos, making it the way to travel in style.

Dubai Media Office says in the video that the short journey times provided by the Hyperloop will save an estimated $800 million in lost working hours.
