A construction worker who fell at a work site on the country's highest peak Jebel Jais, was air lifted to hospital in Ras Al Khaimah by a helicopter rescue service team in a dramatic operation captured on video.

“The air ambulance control room received a rescue call at 9:35 am on Wednesday,” explained Col pilot Salem Al Suwaidi.

“And in co-operation with the national ambulance medical team that was present at the accident site, we managed to fly the injured (worker) to the hospital.”

Paramedics had already performed first aid on the worker, an Indian national, after the fall. Then he was transferred for full treatment to Saqr Hospital in Ras Al Khaimah.

The ministry of interior’s air patrols are always surveying tourists’ spots and off road areas to interfere in case of emergencies that require immediate intervention, added the colonel.

“They support national ambulance vehicles and patrols in difficult rescue missions, and to reach hard terrain, sandy and mountainous areas in critical situations,” he said.

In October, a Pakistani family of three survived a car accident on the road up to the UAE's highest mountain, which is about 1,892 metres above sea level. A 25-year-old man died while hiking on Jebel Jais in June after falling.
