DUBAI // A woman who is serving a life sentence for her role in the torture and death of Wadeema, the little girl whose death brought about a change to child protection laws, was given four more months for insulting a police major and a corporal.
The incident is the latest in a series involving Alanoud Al Amri, 32. She was sentenced to an extra month by Dubai Court of Misdemeanours after insulting a policewoman last year and she was fined Dh1,000 this year after attacking another prisoner over a bag of crisps.
The most recent incident involved the woman insulting corporal HM, 41, on November 27 last year because the policewoman was asking her about her clothing.
She also insulted the female major on December 26, after coming to her office to ask about moving her baby to be with its father, Hamad Al Shirawee, who is in jail for his part in the May 2012 death of eight-year-old Wadeema, who suffered horrific torture at the hands of her father and his girlfriend, Al Amri.
“She ... was not wearing her prison outfit and, when I asked her, she insulted me and even tried to attack me but other prisoners and policewomen controlled her,” said HM.
“She said that I was an animal ... and threatened me, saying that she will show me what she is capable of.”
The major, NA, said that she was at her office when the woman came to her, asking if any of the guards could take her baby boy to his father.
“I told her I will check if any of the guards from the men’s prison is available but, all of a sudden, she raised her voice and started cursing me and saying that she is in prison anyway, so it doesn’t bother her to get any extra months for insulting me,” said the major.
Al Amri refused to be interviewed so there was no testimony from her in records.
Both the police corporal and major filed reports and Al Amri was referred to court, where she was convicted of the insult charges and was given two months in jail for each.
