Volunteers pull 26 tonnes of rubbish from Mussaffah Canal
The waste round-up was part of Towards Cleaner Environment, a general clean-up campaign organised by Abu Dhabi Municipality
More than 26 tonnes of rubbish was pulled from the Mussaffah Canal on Sunday.
Some 50 volunteer divers from Emirates Diving Team, Emirates Diving Centre and Oman Diving Team, kitted up by the beach and retrieved litter from the channel between 7am and 5pm.
The waste round-up was part of Towards Cleaner Environment, a general clean-up campaign organised by Abu Dhabi Municipality.
On Sunday, the Municipality thanked the volunteers for helping keep the city's seas clean and said it would continue its efforts to "promote the principles of societal responsibility and bolster cooperation with partners in serving the community and the environment alike."
