Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid, Vice President and Ruler of Dubai, visited the widow of a prominent Emirati man on Wednesday to wish her a happy Mother's Day in person.
In a touching video shared on his Twitter account, Fatima Ibrahim bin Sulaiman, the widow of Obaid Al Helo, is pictured in conversation with the ruler and his son, Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed, Crown Prince of Dubai.
The Al Helo family has made contributions to numerous charitable campaigns in the country, including Reading Nation and a Dubai Land Department initiative to give money to tenants unable to pay their rent.
In the video Ms Al Helo is heard telling Sheikh Mohammed that she is honoured by his visit though he says the honour is all his. He thanks her for all of her work, which she describes as but a drop of water in the ocean.
Obaid Mohammed Al Helo was born in Dubai in 1921. He was among the first in the emirate to establish a charity organisation. He also helped set up a school and university in Masfout and a centre for women and children in Ajman, reported Arabic-language newspaper Al Bayan.
"I heard only good things about Fatima Ibrahim bin Suleiman," Sheikh Mohammed tweeted. "She is an Emirati mother who not only devoted herself to her family but to the whole community.
"Thank you to all mothers and happy Mother's Day."
Mother's Day in the UAE is celebrated on March 21, later than the international Mother's Day.
