DUBAI // Office workers were forced to evacuate a building in Media City this morning after a fire in the car park.

The blaze in the underground parking at Shatha Tower occurred around 11am, and was doused by three fire engines.

Two ambulances were also present, although a senior representative from Al Sayyah Investments, the building owner, said no one had been injured.

"It's a very minor fire, a very small thing," said the representative, who declined to be named.

Dubai Civil Defence confirmed that the fire was a minor blaze.

Office worker Jumana Abu Hannoud, 36 from Jordan, who works on the 27th floor, said she knew straight away it was a real fire and not a drill.

"We're normally informed ahead of time if it's a drill, but we weren't this time," she said. "We had to walk down 27 floors, but when we got down we found it was worth it."

Calum McKie, 48 from the UK, left his car keys and laptop on the 39th floor of the building. "What with the earthquake recently and now this, we seem to be getting evacuated quite often," he said.

"It's an inconvenience, but at least it makes a change from work."
