Dubai // A man who tried to kill both of his nephews in a row over a land inheritance was jailed for a year today.

MM had claimed he was just defending himself after the two attacked him.

“I inherited a plot of land from my father but my brother and his two sons started making problems with me over the land plot. I was merely defending myself,” the Pakistani defendant, 37, told Dubai Criminal Court last month, denying charges of attempted murder.

The brothers, MAM and MA, said they were at their residence on June 14 when their uncle arrived and asked that they make an urgent call to Pakistan.

“I told him we were having dinner and when we finish, we will make the call,” MA said.

An argument started between the three. The two brothers then said their uncle started attacking them.

“After he beat me he took a knife and stabbed me in the hand and abdomen then stabbed my brother in his abdomen,” MA said.

The 33-year-old MAM said that someone from the accommodation called police at about 8pm after the incident and they were taken to hospital.

Police found the defendant sitting in the brothers’ living room and arrested him.

“He confessed to stabbing them because of a dispute over inheritance,” said police officer SK, 30.
