Heavy vehicles have been banned from using the E311 and E11 roads heading from Sharjah and Ras Al Khaimah to Umm Al Quwain (UAQ) during rush hour, police said.

Officers from UAQ Police said the move was part of wider efforts to improve traffic safety, reduce accidents and help the flow of traffic.

Heavy vehicles and lorries will be prohibited from using both roads to UAQ between 5.30am and 9:30am and between 4:30pm and 9:30pm from October 1.

Any driver found flouting the ban will be fined Dh1,000 and issued four black points.

Last January, Abu Dhabi police also announced a ban on heavy vehicles from entering the city's main roads and suburbs during rush hour between 6.30am and 9am and between 3pm and 6pm.
