Thunder, lightning and heavy rain drenched parts of Abu Dhabi and Dubai’s interior overnight, prompting the National Center for Meteorology and Seismology to publish dashboard video of the dark, wet roads.

The NCMS issued a number of warnings overnight to caution the public about the chance of rain clouds forming over the coast and islands, strong winds that can rough up the Arabian and Oman seas and fog formation. These warnings are in effect throughout most of this morning.

The centre also reported that light rain or mist covered parts of the country, including Jebel Ali, Al Maktoum International Airport and Al Ain. Light rain was also reported in Dubai.

The partly cloudy and hazy conditions are expected to continue throughout the day over most of the country, especially over the sea and coastal areas, where the clouds may become convective at times.

The cloudy conditions will be associated with winds blowing 14km to 30km, at times reaching 40km, along the coast. The wind will be slightly weaker in the country’s interior and mountain regions.

High temperatures are predicted to reach between 26°C and 29°C along the coast, 27°C to 30°C in the rural areas and 16°C to 21°C in the mountains.
