Cloudy weather and rain are expected to persist in parts of the country until Thursday.

The National Centre of Meteorology and Seismology (NCMS) in Abu Dhabi said the unsettled weather is being caused by clouds from the south-west which have already brought heavy rain to parts of the country.

Yesterday, weather stations in the south and east recorded moderate to heavy rain, while some areas also experienced strong winds and reduced visibility.

“We expect the same situation to continue over the next three days,” a forecaster said today.

Moderate rainfall is expected over the southern, central and eastern parts of the country. The clouds are likely to be accompanied by strong winds, which are expected to raise dust and reduce visibility to less than 1,000 metres.

While the rain may temporarily cool some areas, temperatures will remain high with a maximum of 48°C expected over the interior and 44°C in coastal areas.

The unusually wet summer follows an April and May that also saw higher than average rainfall.
