DUBAI // Cloudy skies and showers will continue across the country today.

“There is a chance of rain continuing on Monday and Tuesday and this is why the temperature will fall,” an officer with the National Centre of Meteorology and Seismology said yesterday.

“It will be dusty and windy in the coastal areas and the sea could be rough at night. The cloudy conditions will continue for two days.”

Thunder and scattered rainfall were reported in parts of Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Fujairah yesterday. The high winds associated with the rains are expected to pick up dust over open areas and reduce visibility, the centre said.

“We have warned motorists to be extra careful because of the weather conditions,” said a spokesman for Dubai Police.

“They are being warned to drive safely because of the rain. The possibility of accidents increases in the rain. Keep safe distances to avoid accidents and drive within the speed limit.” Yesterday, accidents were reported on Al Wasl Road, Al Ittihad Road, and Garhoud and Rashidiya bridges in Dubai. Traffic was also snarled in parts of Dubai.

The unsettled weather could cut temperatures in coastal and mountain areas to 23°C, meteorologists said. No warning was issued to fishermen yesterday but the sea was expected to become rough by nightfall yesterday.
