Heavy rain has been forecast throughout Sunday in coastal and interior regions accompanied by rough sea and high winds.

Rainfall will be heavy in Ras al Khaimah, Jebel Jais, Fujairah, Al Dhaid, Al Ain, Sweihan, Al Ruwais, Mezaira and Dalma island, according to the National Centre for Meteorology.

There was also a warning of thick clouds with north western to north easterly winds reaching 50 km per hour and wave heights from five to nine feet in the Arabian Gulf.

Cities such as Dubai and Sharjah will remain cloudy with a chance of rainfall during the day.

Forecasters had earlier warned of potential thunderstorms across the country for today and tomorrow.

The rain clouds will cause a drop in temperatures, particularly over the western regions.

In Dubai, the maximum will be 34°C, while it will peak at 33°C in Abu Dhabi, 34°C in Sharjah, 31°C in Ras Al Khaimah and 31°C in Fujairah.

The maximum humidity will be 65 to 85 per cent across coastal, 60 to 80 per cent in interior regions and between 45 to 65 per cent in the mountains.
