Residents across the country woke up to fair and partly cloudy skies on the first morning of the year, with light to moderate winds reaching speeds of up to 30kph.

There was fog over some interior and coastal areas on Monday, which is also expected on Tuesday morning, according to The National Centre of Meteorology and Seismology (NCMS).

Humidity levels will rise overnight leading to fog formation. They are expected to reach 95 per cent.

The NCMS reported foggy patches this morning over Khalifa collage in Al Ain, Al Hamra, Swiehan and mist over Zayed City.

Much of the UAE will enjoy cooler temperatures during the first day of 2018.

Temperatures are expected to range from 8°C to 30°C in the interior regions and 10°C to 27°C along the coast.

Winds will remain light to moderate and are expected to reach a top speed of 30kph along coastal areas and internal parts of the country.

The sea will be slight to moderate in the Arabian Gulf and Oman Sea.
