ABU DHABI // The head of the National Bureau of Statistics has welcomed FNC plans to examine the office's work.

Reem Al Hashimi, who is also a Minister of State, told the FNC it was "welcome" to study the bureau's strategy, to be later debated with here in the FNC.

It followed a discussion about delays in compiling statistics about UAE economic activity.

Ahmed al Mansouri (Dubai) told Ms Al Hashimi the UAE was lagging behind other GCC countries in presenting the "crucial" figures needed by policy makers and investors.

Ms Al Hashimi said the bureau was working hard to release the numbers as fast as possible, but needed to collect information from more than 10 entities. "We must give a complete picture of the UAE's economy," she said.
