The UAE representative to the UN Human Rights Council, Obaid Salem Al Zaabi, has highlighted concerns about the humanitarian crisis in Gaza.

The UAE's permanent representative to the UN has delivered a statement before the Human Rights Council about the Gaza conflict.

Obaid Salem Al Zaabi called on the council to continue efforts to assist the Palestinians in establishing an independent state, reported the state news agency Wam.

Mr Al Zaabi told the council that 75 per cent of the demolished buildings in Gaza have not been rebuilt, including homes, schools and hospitals.

He also said more than 4,500 Palestinians were being held in Israeli prisons, including 210 children.
