UAE professor cleared of inappropriate behaviour with student

The university professor and his female student were sentenced to three months suspended jail terms but were later acquitted.

ABU DHABI // A university professor has been cleared of inappropriate activity with his student by the Appeals Court.

The professor, M, was in the room with a female student after the woman’s husband followed them and called police.

Her husband attacked her and started hitting her, before police intervened. The Criminal Court had sentenced both the professor and the woman to suspended three month prison terms.

However, when the case was appealed the court acquitted them for an error in procedures.

It was later discovered that the student’s husband had divorced her for a third time on the morning of the incident. So in that case, he had no business breaching her privacy and police should have got an arrest warrant before raiding the room, the Appeals Court ruled.
