UAE police investigate sword battle between Emirati men
A group of Emiratis aged in their twenties were involved in a sword fight on Friday night at the Umm Al Qaiwain car race arena, leaving four of them with moderate to serious injuries.
The injured men were taken to hospital while their attackers fled the scene before police arrived, according to the Arabic-language newspaper Al Ittihad.
Lt Col Humaid Matar bin Ujeil, head of the criminal investigation department at Umm Al Qaiwain Police, cautioned youngsters against aggressive – and potentially fatal – social behaviour over trivial matters.
Police would not be soft in dealing with people who fight using blades and other sharp instruments, he said, urging members of the community to mediate in cases where two sides have small personal differences.
A police investigation is under way.
