UAE marks World Water Day with celebrations across the country

One of the events lined up will be the water conservation tour of Yas Waterworld by five Abu Dhabi pupils.

DUBAI // World Water Day is being celebrated across the country with a range of activities.

In Abu Dhabi, Aldar Academies’ Pearl Primary School is organising a fund-raising competition to buy two water tanks for a school in Ethiopia. The contest is being organised to mark World Water Day, which takes place tomorrow. (March 22)

The five pupils who raise the most will celebrate their achievements with a trip to Yas Waterworld next week, where they will take a tour of its water conservation system.

The park was designed to Estidama sustainability criteria, and is considered the first green water park in the Middle East.

Dubai Municipality’s environment department has organised nine days of activities starting on March 21, including a mobile exhibition that will visit schools, labour camps and offices with a message of water preservation and quality monitoring.

It will also launch awareness campaigns in areas of Dubai where water use is higher.
