DUBAI // Hussain Al Somhy believes the UAE is ready to host an international event such as the World Expo.

Mr Al Somhy, 30, a public relations officer from Ajman, said Dubai was best suited to host the Expo in 2020.

“Dubai is a very modern city and has everything that people need,” he said. “It has the best infrastructure and the best facilities for visitors from around the world.

“There are many hotels for people to stay when they visit and lots of tourist attractions.”

Mr Al Somhy, like many other Emiratis, said he was looking forward to the announcement on Wednesday, when officials will gather in Paris to vote on which candidate city will host the event.

“I am sure there will be a very big celebration if Dubai wins,” he said. “It would be like National Day has come early.”

The other cities in the running are Yekaterinburg in Russia, Sao Paulo in Brazil and Izmir in Turkey.

Mr Al Somhy believes Dubai has the best chance.

“Dubai is the best candidate,” he said. “But even if Dubai loses it will not affect its growth. It is always growing, always moving and always changing.”
