UAE inaugurate new building at UK’s Royal Military Academy Sandhurst

The cost to construct the building - Dh880 million - had been donated by the UAE in recognition of the academy being one of the first international institutions to accept UAE students four decades ago.

The UAE inaugurated a new building at the UK's Royal Military Academy Sandhurst on Thursday.

The cost to construct the Zayed Building - Dh880 million - had been donated by the UAE in recognition of the academy being one of the first international institutions to accept UAE students four decades ago.

According to the state news agency, WAM, Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, who is a graduate of Sandhurst, attended the opening of the building. It coincided with the 200th anniversary of Sandhurst's occupation at its current campus.

The building has two wings for accommodation, each containing 100 rooms. It also has administrative offices and a library.

During the opening ceremony, Sheikh Hamdan met with six UAE cadets, including the first female Emirati to have joined the academy.

More than 210 Emirati cadets have graduated from Sandhurst.
