The Emirates ID Authority is encouraging the guardians of children and adults with special needs to benefit from a waiver on registration fees.

The authority's director general Ali Mohammed Al Khouri told Al Ittihad that such applicants were exempt from paying registration fees for ID cards when applying at any of the authority's 32 centres or any of the 30 nationality, residency and preventive medicine centres across the country.

He said the authority was also considering making printing bureaus take part in the fee-exemption scheme.

However, he cautioned that the exemption does not extend to fees for late registration or late renewal of expired ID cards.
