The Foreign Minister, Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed, yesterday took part in the annual coordination meeting of the Gulf Cooperation Council, held in New York.

The meeting is part of the preparations for the 68th session of the UN General Assembly.

The Bahraini Foreign Minister, Sheikh Khalid bin Ahmed Al Khalifa, chaired the meeting, which discussed a number of regional and international issues in addition to a number of issues of mutual interest.

Dr Abdul Latif Bin Rashid Al Zayani, the secretary general of the GCC, also attended the meeting.

Sheikh Abdullah is in New York to head the UAE’s delegation to the UN General Assembly, state news agency WAM reported.

After the GCC meeting, he met with his counterpart from Kosovo, Enver Hoxhaj, and the chairwoman of the African Union Commission, Dr Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma, at his residence in the city.

Sheikh Abdullah talked about bilateral economic relations, trade, culture and tourism with Mr Hoxhaj.

The Kosovan expressed his country’s gratitude to Sheikh Abdullah on the recognition by the UAE of the state of Kosovo.

In the meeting with Dr Dlamini-Zuma, views were exchanged on a number of political issues of mutual interest.

Dr Dlamini-Zuma briefed Sheikh Abdullah on the peacekeeping efforts of the African Union and the United Nations in a number of African countries, particularly in Egypt, Libya, Kenya, Niger and Mali.
