UAE flight cancelled as Air India strike continues

Air India Express flight flying from Sharjah to Calicut in Kerala has been cancelled due to the ongoing strike by the pilots at India's national carrier.

DUBAI // An Air India Express flight flying from Sharjah to Calicut in Kerala has been cancelled due to the ongoing strike by the pilots at India's national carrier.

Flight IX 350 was to depart at around 10:40am on Tuesday.

"It has been cancelled due to the strike and all passengers have been informed and accommodated on other flights," said Abhay Pathak, the regional manager for Gulf, Middle East and Africa at Air India.

He said 140 passengers were to travel on the flight. "Around 100 were shifted to our own carriers or other airlines while 40 people have rescheduled their travel."

The strike by Air India pilots continued into its 22th day yesterday, pushing up losses to more than Dh2 billion.

Trouble started for the airline on May 8 when members of the Indian Pilots Guild took mass sick leave, protesting a move to provide Boeing-787 Dreamliner training to pilots from the erstwhile Indian Airlines.
