The UAE has donated US$5 million (Dh18.3m) to a hospital in the US that was destroyed in a tornado last year.
The money will be used to build a paediatric section and for the development of a neonatal intensive care unit. Mercy Hospital, one of the 8,000 buildings destroyed in the tornado that hit Joplin, Missouri, nearly a year ago, plans to have a new hospital in operation by 2015.
This is the second donation to Joplin from the UAE. The country provided a grant in August that could be worth up to US$1 million to purchase laptop computers for Joplin High School students.
