A delegation led by the Deputy FNC Speaker Dr Amal Al Qubaisi, is visiting Washington and New York to promote the UAE's efforts in empowerment of women.

During a reception at the UAE's Mission to the United Nations, DrAl Qubaisi stressed the country's commitment to the policy, reported the state news agency Wam.

She told of her pride at the increasing number of nations that admit to the responsibility each country holds towards stopping violence against women, protecting them, and providing swift and efficient assistance, as well as pursuing those who cause women harm.

She said a number of high-rankingGovernment positions were filled by women, politically, financially, academically and culturally.

She cited the four women ministers in the Cabinet, as well as the percentage of women in Parliament - 18 percent - as examples.

Dr Al Qubaisi said the UAE was first-ranked in the region in terms of female education - female students outnumber their male counterparts in schools and girls make up about 70 percent of higher education graduates.

She emphasised that the UAE had finalised the necessary procedures that guaranteed female participation in decision-making positions.

The Cabinet had issued a resolution that aimed to reinforce women's participation in boards of directors in government companies and associations.

That made the UAE only the second country internationally to commit to including females in administrative positions.

Dr Al Qubaisi said she was comfortable with the way the delegation members' discussions with the Americans had gone, and they hadsuccessfully reflected the professional and academic level that UAE women enjoy.

She also praised the unlimited support provided for Emirati women by the leadership, mainly by the President,Sheikh Khalifa, and Fatima bint Mubarak, Chairwoman of the General Women's Union, as well as the role played by the late Sheikh Zayed, founder the UAE, who was a lifetime supporter of Emirati women.
