Lt Col Faisal Al Shamari, head of the Ministry of Interior's child protection centre, set forth a vision of the conference and various topics at a meeting yesterday at the Abu Dhabi Police Officers' Club.

Lt Col Al Shamari underscored the keen interest the Higher Committee for Child Protection in the Ministry of Interior has in protecting children, and lauded the initiative of Al Ain Municipality in helping to organise the conference.

The meeting was attended by representatives of Al Ain Municipality and the Family Development Foundation.

The municipality is devoted to finding a cooperation framework for achieving maximum child protection, said Obaid Al Ketbi, head of the community service department at Al Ain municipality.

Khaled Rashed Hamdan Al Jaberi, community events coordinator at Al Ain municipality, stressed the importance of oversight in ensuring commitment to standards and prevention in protecting children.

It was proposed that the conference would last three days, with three main topics: age groups; types of toys; and legislation, regulations and best international practices in protecting children from toy hazards.

The participants also advised that an awareness campaign about toy hazards be held in advance of the converence.
