DUBAI // People with disabilities will receive training, job opportunities and career development under a deal between the Ministry of Social Affairs and Majid Al Futtaim Ventures.
As part of the agreement, handmade goods and products by people with disabilities will be promoted at Majid Al Futtaim's retail outlets and at centres owned by the ministry.
The goal of the partnership is to help integrate people with disabilities into society, said Majid Al Futtaim, which manages leisure, entertainment and cinema facilities in Ajman City Centre, Deira City Centre, Fujairah City Centre, Mirdif City Centre and Sharjah City Centre shopping malls.
"This memorandum will enable people with disabilities or special needs to find job opportunities within the workforce and help define a sustainable career path for the future," said Naji Al Hai, the under secretary at the ministry.
"The purpose of these job opportunities is not only to secure a stable income for people with disabilities or special needs, but to provide positive psychological and social benefits for them and their families ... Their role in society is no different from any other contributing member."
The roles and rights of people with disabilities are protected under a federal law issued in 2006 and amended in 2009.
