UAE 'committed to backing Yemen'
The UAE has reiterated its commitment to Yemen and its backing for the country's political transition plan.
Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Dr Anwar Mohammed Gargash, outlined the UAE's support for the plan, which is based on a GCC initiative to maintain the country's security and stability, WAM, the state news agency has reported.
"The UAE, under the leadership of President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, is committed to its historical policy of backing our brothers in Yemen, in the current circumstances in particular."
Dr Gargash made his remarks at the third ministerial meeting of the Friends of Yemen held in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
"The success of the political aspect of this plan is basically linked with backing Yemen's efforts to restructure its economy.
"The UAE stands with its Yemeni brothers in the face of the security and terrorist challenge targeting the stability of Yemen and the diligent efforts by the Yemeni unity government."
Dr Gargash added that a stable Yemen with a successful state would ensure regional security. "The UAE stands with Yemen and backs it in this critical challenge."
