ABU DHABI // Six naturalised UAE residents have had their citizenship revoked on the President's orders, the state news agency WAM reported today.
It quoted a source at the General Administration for Naturalisation, Residency and Ports Affairs as saying that Sheikh Khalifa had issued the order on December 4 because the six had committed acts posing a threat to the state's security and safety.
All had originally held the nationality of other countries, and were granted UAE nationality by naturalisation in the 1970s and 80s.
The six are: Hussein Munif Abdullah Hassan Al Jabri (granted UAE nationality in 1976), Hassan Munif Abdullah Hassan Al Jabri (1976); Ibrahim Hassan Ali Hassan Al Marzouqi (1979), Shaheen Abdullah Malallah Haider Al Hosani (1976), Ali Hussein Ahmed Ali Al Hammadi (1986); Mohammed Abdul Raziq Mohammed Al Sidiq Al Abeidli (1976).
The source alleged they were connected to "suspicious regional and international organisations and personalities", including some that were listed by the UN as groups suspected of financing terrorism.
The UAE's 1972 Naturalisation Law allows naturalised citizenship to be withdrawn if a person "commits or attempts to commit an act that poses a threat to the security and safety of the state''.
