ABU DHABI // Twelve ambulances and advanced medical equipment will be donated to Tunisia by the Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan Foundation, it was announced yesterday.
The vehicles and more than 50 items for maternity and paediatric care will be given to the country's health ministry, which will distribute it to 13 health and medical centres in various cities, said Mohammed Haji Al Khouri, director general of the foundation.
He revealed the details during a meeting with the Tunisian Ambassador to the UAE, Tareq Baltayeb, according to the state news agency, Wam.
Mr Al Khouri said supporting Tunisia's health system was part of the foundation's strategy. The organisation's support to Tunisia's health system is being coordinated with the UAE Embassy in Tunis.
Mr Baltayeb expressed his appreciation for the humanitarian support.
In September, the foundation announced the end of the first phase of its effort to assist displaced Rohingya Muslims in Myanmar's Arkan state. The organsiation had delivered three ambulances and 1,300 tonnes of relief.
This month the foundation sent a delegation - along with representatives from UAE Red Crescent and Dubai Cares - to visit Oxfam Great Britain in London.
The three-day visit allowed the group to see the inner workings of the charity, which provides aid to 53 countries around the world.
