ABU DHABI // The UAE Space agency met with Luxembourg officials on Monday to discuss opportunities for cooperation.

Luxembourg, which is roughly the size of Sharjah and has just over half a million inhabitants, is looking to become a European hub in the space sector.

The EU member is home to the largest satellite operator in the world, the Society of European Satellite, which operates 50 communications satellites broadcasting thousands of channels around the world including over 200 in the Middle East.

Representing the UAE Space Agency were its chairman, Dr Khalifa Al Rumaithi, and its director general, Dr Mohammed Al Ahbabi.

The Luxembourg delegation included Etienne Schneider, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defence, Economy, and Internal Security, and Nicole Bintner, Ambassador to the UAE.
