DUBAI // Two people were killed on Saturday morning after a Range Rover hit a road sign on Dubai Bypass Road and burst into flames.

The accident, which claimed the lives of an Emirati man who was at the wheel and that of another person, whose charred body is yet to be identified, occurred at about 8am just after the Al Qudra Road bridge, Dubai Police said.

"The driver veered off the road and hit the cement barrier on the right side of the road and then hit road sign board," said Maj Gen Mohammed Saif Al Zaffin, the head of Dubai Police traffic department. "The car crossed the barrier and settled on the sign board pillar due to speed. The car was completed burnt and the driver was burnt inside."
