AJMAN // Two Emirati children were found suffocated in their father’s car after becoming trapped inside the vehicle for about two hours in mid-afternoon heat.

The sisters, aged four and two, were playing in the garden at their home in Al Jurf, Ajman, and entered the car, which then auto-locked and they could not get out, police said.

Lt Col Ali Jaber Al Shamsi, director of comprehensive police centres, said that their father had gone to perform noon prayers at a mosque at the time of the incident.

While the father was away, one of his sons went out to check up on the girls and found them in a distressing state, unable to breathe.

The father was called and he rushed back to the house to perform CPR but it was in vain. He then took them to hospital but they died before they got there.

Lt Col Al Shamsi urged people to ensure children are supervised while playing at all times.
