DUBAI // Artistic youngsters from across the region have been recognised for their drawing talent by Cartoon Network Arabic.

The television channel chose 15 winners, including three from the UAE, as recipients of its Creative Generation 2014 competition. Other winners came from Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Egypt, Jordan and Qatar.

The theme for this year’s competition, designed to encourage creative thinking, was friendship, tolerance and acceptance. Entrants, aged four to 12, were tasked with drawing their favourite Cartoon Network Arabic characters, welcoming the channel’s newest cartoon star, Mansour, in the process.

The winners will have their work showcased on the channel and each was given a Kurio7S tablet.

“The calibre of children in the region is extraordinary,” said Tarek Mounir, commercial director for the Middle East, North Africa, Greece and Cyprus at Turner Broadcasting.

“All the entries submitted reflected creativity and enthusiasm. Friendship is such an important value for our children’s personal growth and happiness, and it was very apparent that the participating children displayed a strong understanding and appreciation of the theme,” he added.

Judges for the competition visited participating schools across the region to judge entries in three age brackets.

“Being a part of the judging panel for the Creative Generation 2014 competition has been fascinating,” said Rashed Al Harmoodi, the creator of Mansour.

“The region boasts outstanding creative talent that can become globally renowned with the right nurturing and development, and we’re pleased to be able to contribute to providing opportunities for identifying and developing talent in this field,” he said.
