Tutor convicted of sexually assaulting pupil

Victim said teacher kissed her on the lips

A private tutor has been found guilty of sexually assaulting a 15-year-old pupil and jailed for six months.

Dubai Criminal Court ruled the 40-year-old from Bangladesh, who has not been named, be deported following his sentence.

The trial heard how the teacher was hired by an Indian family to give lessons to their daughter four times a week in the Al Muraqqabat area of Dubai.

But the girl later accused him of touching her inappropriately, including once instance where he kissed her near the lips.

“It didn't happen your honour," the defendant told the court, insisting instead that he was set up after highlighting the girl's weak academic performance.

"I noticed how weak her academic performance was so I became tougher with her and I admit I slapped her in one incident. Her family then came up with this lie to frame me.”

The court was told that on June 17 this year the tutor held the girl's face in his hands before kissing her near her lips. “He told me it was a friend’s kiss,” she said. "I told my mother the minute he left home and she then told my father who called the police." The tutor has two weeks to appeal his sentence.
