A lorry driver who was swept away in flash floods which battered parts of the UAE has been found dead after a major search operation.

The 53-year-old was reported missing after being caught up in treacherous weather conditions while trying to drive through Wadi Al Quor, in the southern part of Ras Al Khaimah last Tuesday.

Police from Ras Al Khaimah and Abu Dhabi and the Dubai Air Wing helicopter team launched a search operation for the man that day – with efforts to find him continuing for five days.

RAK Police have now confirmed unfortunately the man died after attempting to escape the deadly floods.

His body was found on Saturday morning – about 1.5 kilometres from where he was reported missing – by divers from Sharjah Police.

Lieutenant Colonel Majid Al Naqbi, from RAK Police, said the man had jumped out of his vehicle but was swept away by the fierce waters.
